Love From Your Pastor

Hi FBC Friends,

I hope today finds you experiencing the blessings of the Lord!

I am excited about the 2nd week of AWANA tonight!  It’s not too late if you would like to join our class for parents.  We’ll be meeting in my office, and starting Lesson 1 of our books on How to Raise a Modern-Day Joseph.  Today we read a great passage in Psalms about our responsibility to tell the coming generation of the wonders of the Lord!

We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done. 5 He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children, 6 that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, 7 so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments; 8 and that they should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God. (Psa 78:4-8 ESV)

This is a responsibility of parents for sure.  But it is also the responsibility for the entire church.  We have an obligation to pass on our faith to the generation to come!  I am thankful that we are investing in children on Thursday nights and on Sundays here at FBC.  Please pray for our continued effectiveness in ministering to the next generation.

Have you seen our website lately?  It is www.fbcbrownsvilleoregon.org.  Thanks to Erika Marvin, it is much improved.  And she’s not done.  But take a look at it.  We now have sermons that can be downloaded.  You can even subscribe to the podcast through i-tunes if you’d like.  There is a calendar of events, as well as the Bible reading schedule.  We have pertinent information for parents on the Awana tab.  There will be added features to come.  So check it out!

Trunk-or-Treat is coming Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 6-7:30pm.  This year our candy collection contest will be between MEN and WOMEN.  (Sorry Duck fans.  I’m sure you wanted a chance to redeem yourselves from last year’s defeat!)  We hope to have a pink box and a blue box this Sunday.  You can probably figure out which box to use.  So guys, we’re going to need to step up to the plate!  We can’t let the girls show us up.  Last year, we had around 20 cars decorated.  We’d love to even have a few more this year.  So be thinking about how you can decorate your car, truck, motorcycle, tractor, fire truck, etc. etc.  Elizabeth will have a sign up list this Sunday.  We will also be looking for donations of hot dogs, buns, and cookies, so we can feed the families that come.  Last year we had around 150 kids who came through.  They all went away happy and with LOTS of candy!  It was a great way to make some connections with families from our community.  Many parents said they loved it and would be back this year.  We were able to share gospel tracts and information about our church and children’s programs with everyone who came.  So let’s be in prayer that this can be another great event!

This Sunday, we will be in Hosea 4.  Please read ahead.  We will look at how unfaithfulness to the Lord is destructive to an entire society.  God is the One who makes the laws, and He is the only One who is the perfect Judge.  We’ll be looking at His accusations against His people, and what that means for you and me today.

For the men, this Saturday we will be on Lesson 7, about the Holy Spirit.  We have a new verse to memorize: John 14:16 (It’s a pretty easy one this week!)

Looking forward to seeing you all, as we continue together to Exalt the Lord’s name, Extend the Lord’s invitation, and Equip the Lord’s people!

Love From Your Pastor,
Michael
