Love From Your Pastor

Hello FBC!

She came and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts, and you and your sons can live on the rest.” (2 Kings 4:7)

The miracles we read about in 2 Kings 4 today are fascinating and have some great implications.  Once again I love how my Gospel Transformation Bible puts it:  “The author of Kings was writing to an audience perhaps already experiencing the tragedy and difficulty of life in exile.  As such, the several miracles recorded in this lengthy chapter would have functioned to remind God’s people of His power to restore the blessings forfeited due to repeated infidelity and covenant breaking.  Even in the midst of famine or the death of a husband, the Lord can and will provide.  He can make the barren fertile and restore life by the power of resurrection.

Until our Lord returns to make all things new, His people will live like aliens in a world to which they do not fully belong.  For believers living in this fallen world, we live in exile.  As resident aliens, tragedy and suffering will be a normal part of our lives in this fallen world.  But even here, the Lord desires to set before the eyes of His people the hope of all things being made new.  The miracles recorded in this chapter continue to remind us that we look forward to greater things.  One day we will be satisfied at the table of the Lord.  Death, hunger, and debt will no longer have any place.”  Amen to that!

Speaking of the Lord providing, and debt no longer having any place… This Sunday we’ll be back in our series, “Dollar$ & $ense”.  I will be speaking on “Saving for a Rainy Day.”  The Bible has a lot to say about the wisdom of saving our resources, reasons to do so, and the wrong reasons for doing so.  I hope you’ll join us.  Our memory verse is:

The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty. (Proverbs 21:5)  Not too difficult this week – please be ready to say it together Sunday!

Please remember their is a brief quarterly business meeting after the service this Sunday, followed by the 50th anniversary potluck for Roger and Alice Tetamore. Please bring a side dish only!

Thank you for being a great church family!  Looking forward to seeing you all Sunday.  (The A/C works and plenty of water to drink here!!!)
