He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no one to intercede; then his own arm brought him salvation, and his righteousness upheld him. (Isaiah 59:16 ESV)

This Sunday’s message will be from Isaiah 59, entitled “Mighty to Save”. We will be reminded again of how sin separates people from God, but also how God works out a plan of salvation for His people. Please read the passage ahead of time and be here Sunday at 10:30!

Men — tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 8am is our monthly Men’s Breakfast! You won’t want to miss this one, as a former member of Randy’s prison Bible study will be sharing his testimony with us. Come and be fed spiritually and physically!

And Sarah said, “God has made laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh over me.” (Genesis 21:6 ESV)

This Sunday is Mother’s Day! (You’re welcome for the reminder, men!) So we will take a brief break from Isaiah to look at “A Time to Weep, a Time to Laugh” from Genesis 21:1-21. Please read that ahead of Sunday and come with hearts prepared. The passage was chosen because of Mother’s Day, but the text has a message for every one of us, men and women alike! We will see a number of characters in this true story: Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Ishmael, Hagar, and of course… God! Let’s be sure to honor our mothers, as well as exalt the Lord together!

A reminder: there will be no Sunday School this week, but please join us at 10:30am for worship!

Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? (Isaiah 58:6 ESV)

This Sunday’s message is “God’s Chosen Fast” from Isaiah 58. Please read and contemplate this important chapter before the worship service. We will see that God exposes hypocritical fasting, calling His people to a genuine fast of loving the poor and delighting in Him.

4 Chair Discipling Seminar May 11, 9am–3pm @ FBC. As part of our focus on Equipping God’s People this year, I am excited about this wonderful opportunity for all of us! “Jesus recognized that the people He encountered were at different stages of growth and development, and He worked to challenge each of them to the next level. In the 4 Chair Discipling Seminar, you’ll get a clear and simple picture of how to follow in Jesus’ footsteps and do the same thing.” I would love to see every one of youcome and be EQUIPPED by this great training! You can register with the following link, or ask Erika to help you in the church office: DISCIPLING SEMINAR  (Scholarships are available upon request.) Refreshments and lunch will be provided!

For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite. (Isaiah 57:15 ESV)

This Sunday I will be speaking on Isaiah 56 & 57, about “The Wheat & the Weeds”.  Please read both chapters prayerfully in preparation for Sunday. You could also read the parable Jesus told about the wheat and the weeds in Matthew 13:24-30.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Easter Sunday a blessed time! I am extremely grateful for the prayers and participation of many in the FBC family. From the choir and worship team, to those who provided refreshments between services, to those in the sound/video booth, the ushers, the parking attendants, and anyone else I may be missing! Please pray for those who were guests (or infrequent attenders), that any seeds that were planted and/or watered would bear much fruit according to God’s grace and power. Pray for those who picked up the “Living in Christ” books as well!

Some of you may know Joe and Marilyn Jenkins, long-time attenders of FBC. Joe’s health has prevented them from coming on Sundays for quite some time, as Marilyn has been staying with him to care for him. She asked me to pass along that Joe is turning 90! In honor of his birthday, they are having an open house for friends and family this Saturday, April 27, from 1pm to whenever everyone’s gone! She said Joe would be thrilled to see any of us from FBC there.

Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. (Isaiah 55:1)

This Sunday, April 21 is Easter! We will have 2 services, 9am & 11am, with programs for children during both. There will be refreshments between the services as well! Our theme for Easter this year is “Living Hope”.  I am excited to hear two numbers from our Brownsville Gospel Choir and powerful songs of worship led by our worship team. I am speaking on Isaiah 55, “Come, All You Thirsty!” This chapter clearly and compellingly calls all people to come to Christ and be saved.

I will be challenging those that want to commit their lives to following Christ to see me after the service and pick up a short follow-up study booklet called “Living in Christ.” Pray that many will do that and commit to completing the study with a Christian friend (possibly you)!

But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? (1 John 3:17 ESV)

This Sunday is going to be exciting! Our Mexico Mission Team will be sharing testimonies, leading worship, and giving us a report about God’s work in and through them over Spring Break. Pastor Justin will show us a video he has put together from the trip, and will be sharing about their devotional times in the book of 1 John. He recommends we read 1 John 3in preparation for this Sunday.

Also, please remember that we are receiving a special offering for Andy Alvarez as part of the celebration of the Mexico trip. Prayerfully consider a generous gift to help with Andy’s large medical expenses.

“In overflowing anger for a moment I hid my face from you, but with everlasting love I will have compassion on you,” says the LORD, yourRedeemer. (Isaiah 54:8 ESV)

Our sermon this week will be from Isaiah 54. Please take some time to read over the chapter is preparation for Sunday. One of the great missionaries of the past, William Carey, preached a famous message from this chapter, where he exhorted people to: 1) Expect great things from God; and 2) Attempt great things for God. Let’s look into this great chapter together this Sunday.

Last Sunday I spoke on what is probably the most important passage in the book of Isaiah (perhaps all of the Old Testament) — Isaiah 52:13-53:12.  If you missed it, you can listen here: ISAIAH 53

April 21 is Easter! That’s 16 days from today! We will have 2 services, 9am & 11am, with programs for children during both. Please be praying for great impact upon our community, and for the friends you will be inviting! Our theme for Easter this year is “Living Hope”.

The new movie about Abby Johnson, “Unplanned” is out in theaters. I want to urge you to consider seeing this important film about the former Planned Parenthood director who had a dramatic change of heart and life. Click the following link to watch the trailer and find out where it is playing near you: UNPLANNED

A box is being put together to mail to Molly in South Africa. We would loveto include notes and cards of encouragement for her. If you would like to write something for her, please bring it to FBC this Sunday. Thank you!

April 14th, our Mexico Mission Team will be sharing in the Sunday morning worship service. You’ll want to make sure to be here to be encouraged by their report!

Dear Rosemary,

But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5 ESV)

Isaiah 52:13 — 53:12 is our text for this Sunday’s sermon, “Man of Sorrows.” To put it simply, this is the most important passage in the entire Old Testament. John MacArthur says, “If the rest of the New Testament had been lost except for the historical record of Jesus’ crucifixion, sinners could be led to salvation through Isaiah’s explanation of the atonement in chapter 53 alone. It is quite simply the most profound revelation of the Savior’s work ever given to any prophet” (The Gospel According to God, pg. 38). Please read through, pray over, and meditate on this passage of Scripture, and join us Sunday!

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.” (Isaiah 52:7 ESV)

This Sunday’s sermon will cover Isaiah 52:1-12, and is entitled, “Bringing Good News”.  We will see Isaiah challenging God’s people to put on “beautiful garments” and to bring good news with “beautiful feet”!

Please remember to be in prayer for our youth that are leaving early tomorrow morning (4:30am!) for Mexico. Pray for safety on the drive down and back, for their service to be a blessing to the church and the people in the colony of San Antonio de las Minas, and for the trip to have a profound spiritual impact on the lives of the youth and the leaders!

Also remember the FBC work day this Saturday from 9am to Noon!

March 31 I am planning a membership class from Noon to 3pm (lunch provided). Please let me know ASAP if you plan to attend!

April 21 (one month from today!) is Resurrection (a.k.a. Easter) Sunday! We will have 2 services, 9am & 11am, with programs for children during both. Please be praying for great impact upon our community, and for the friends you will be inviting! Our theme for Easter this year is “Living Hope”.

“And the ransomed of the LORD shall return and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.” (Isaiah 51:11 ESV)

This Sunday’s sermon will cover Isaiah 51, and is entitled, “Salvation & Righteousness Forever”.  We’ll be reminded again that God’s saving actions in the past are the key to our hope for the future. Please read the chapter and join us Sunday!

Men – tomorrow morning at 8am is our monthly breakfast! Sorry for the late reminder – but if you see this tonight please be sure to join us in the morning!

Please also come and pray with us during our Day of Prayer on Monday, March 18, from 5-9am & 5-9pm. You can join us for a one hour time slot or more! We will be seeking the Lord together for guidance and direction for our future ministry at FBC.
