Love From Your Pastor

Hello FBC Friends!

Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! (Psalm 133:1)

It was interesting that this was our reading in the psalms in the One Year Bible today.  In the blurb in The Times (Brownsville’s weekly paper) about the community-wide church service during Pioneer Picnic this Sunday, the last words were these same words from Psalm 133:1.

I appreciated these comments I read today about Psalm 133:  “The unity of God’s people has been, and continues to be, a sign of God’s rich blessing.  Here the psalmist reflects on those who are bound together in the worship of Yahweh at the temple, and he revels in their union in faith and practice as the true people of God… Spiritual and physical blessings are both good gifts from God above, and those who see God’s hand at work in both ways unite in their common praise of their gracious God.  As believers on this side of the cross, our minds are naturally brought to the unity we have in Christ (John 17:21-23).  The basis of our unity is even greater now that the fulfillment of those priestly laws has come, and the true Mediator of God’s people with their heavenly Father intercedes for us.  If there was beauty in the unity of God’s people at the temple, how much more is the glory of our union shown as we, in Christ, display our devotion and love for Him.” (Gospel Transformation Bible)

This Sunday we will be joining with a few other Christian churches in our area to be a part of the annual Pioneer Picnic church service at Pioneer Park, at 10:00am.  We’d love to have all of you join us!  There will be no Sunday School or worship service here at FBC this week.  I will be speaking (briefly I hope!) on Genesis 15:5; 22:17; and Hebrews 11:12, about the promise to Abraham that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars.  Pray I can be clear and that God will use His Word to impact lives!

Of course this Sunday is also Father’s Day!  I am thankful for my dad who is here visiting from Arizona right now.  Thank you to all of you dads who pray, sacrifice, work, discipline, comfort and love for the sake of your children!  May God help us become more like Him each day, because He truly is the ultimate “Good Good Father”!  By the way, thank you to the ones who supplied the doughnuts last Sunday in honor of our fathers!  Also, thank you to everyone who came to the graduation parties for Ethan, Tobias, and Molly!  You did a great job of showing your love for these young adults as they prepare for the next chapter of their lives.

Looking forward to seeing you at the picnic!  If you come Saturday morning for breakfast, you might see Elizabeth and me in the kitchen!  And of course see at 10am for the community church service!

Love From Your Pastor,

Michael

P.S. Thank you for praying for Earl Hinkle today.  I saw he and Marilyn this afternoon in Corvallis, and he is doing a little better.  They are hoping they will be able to go home tomorrow.  Let’s continue to pray.
