And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. (Mark 1:35 ESV) In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God. (Luke 6:12 ESV)

This Sunday we will continue our sermon series PETER: Learning to Live Like Jesus.  We will take a look at two passages: Mark 1:29-39 & Luke 6:12-23.  Please read those ahead of time, prayerfully of course!  In the sermon, I will be zeroing in especially on Mark 1:35 & Luke 6:12.  Peter had a front row seat to see how prayer was the stabilizing force behind Jesus’ ministry.  I hope our time together in the Word this Sunday will impact greatly all of our prayer lives!  Be sure to join us Sunday at 10:30am!

Also Sunday, the new adult Sunday School class will begin on “Counter Culture”. We will watch a video lesson from David Platt and discuss the topic. This is sure to be an important and timely group of lessons for us as Christians in an often anti-Christian world. Be sure to come at 9am Sunday and be a part of the class! If you have children, we have excellent classes for all ages, so start a new holy habit this week!

Families, remember that tonight is AWANA registration night from 6:00 to 7:30pm! Hot dogs will be provided, so come get the kids registered for this year’s club and you’ll all be fed too!  Regular AWANA clubs begin next Thursday, 7:00 to 8:30pm.

“The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you. My love be with you all in Christ Jesus. Amen.” (1 Cor. 16:23-24)

And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at Your word I will let down the nets.” (Luke 5:5 ESV)

We are beginning a new sermon series this week — PETER: Learning to Live Like Jesus! We are going to look at a number of events from Peter’s life that will help us learn what it means to live as a follower of Jesus Christ. This Sunday we will be in Luke 5:1-11, talking about “Learning to Obey.” This is a marvelous account of a very powerful event early in Peter’s relationship with Jesus. Please read the passage and come prepared to learn how to obey Sunday!

Thank you for your prayers for my family and I as we traveled to Mexico and back for Molly’s wedding! We greatly appreciate it. It was a blessed time with many family, friends, and new friends and new family. I am also thankful for Pastor Justin doing a splendid job preaching and “holding down the fort” while I was away!

I’m looking forward to a great weekend at Camp Tadmor for Men’s Roundup! Please pray that all the men (and some young men) going will be powerfully impacted and challenged in our spiritual lives! I’ll be at Tadmor for most of the event but will be at FBC Sunday to worship, fellowship, and grow in the Word with you!

The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” (John 1:43 ESV)

This Sunday we’ll be looking at Chair 2 and Jesus’ challenge to “Follow Me.” Our text will be John 1:43-51. Please take some time to read that before we gather together. The disciple-making journey continues with those who are now believers.  Jesus invites them to follow Him, growing to be more like Him.

A great “Chair 2” opportunity for men is taking place on Saturdays at 7:45am (in classroom 3) — we are continuing the video series on the basics of the Christian life by Sinclair Ferguson. Come check it out, guys!

He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. (John 1:39 ESV)

This Sunday we will begin a new four-part sermon series: “4 Chair Discipling: Growing a Movement of Disciple-Makers”. The first message will be on Chair 1 – “Come and See”. We will take a close look at an encounter between Jesus and some early disciples in John 1:35-42. The disciple-making journey begins with those who are spiritually lost. Jesus came “to seek and save the lost.” Please prayerfully read that passage and join us Sunday at 10:30!

After the worship service Sunday, we will head down to the Pioneer Park for our annual all-church picnic! Please plan to come enjoy a time of fellowship, good food, enjoying the beauty of the park, playing games, and… Lord willing, horse rides for the kids (and young at hearts)! Please bring a main dish and a side, salad, or dessert to share. You will need to bring drinks, plates, etc. for you and your family. Also bring along any lawn games, sports equipment, horse shoes, etc. And, did I mention, Ivan plans to bring a few horses for riding?

This evening is the last opportunity of this week to join in the 4 Days of Prayer. We will be praying together from 5-9pm tonight. Thank you to everyone who has joined in our prayer times so far!

For as the new heavens and the new earth that I make shall remain before me, says the LORD, so shall your offspring and your name remain… All flesh shall come to worship before me, declares the LORD. (Isaiah 66:22-23)

This Sunday we will complete our series on the great book of Isaiah! We will look at chapter 66, the final chapter, with a message titled, “Thus Says the LORD.” Isaiah describes the heart and behavior of true and false worshipers, as well as their eternal destinies. I hope you will be here as we wrap up this series, which we began in September 2017! I’ve had a few people share with me something from our Isaiah studies that has impacted them. If you have something to share with me, please email it to me or write me a note!

To help with a reminder of the overall themes of Isaiah, I’d encourage you to watch these 2 videos from the Bible Project (about 8 mins each):  ISAIAH part 1  ISAIAH part 2

July 22–25 is our 4 Days of Prayer! We will gather together from 5 to 9am & 5 to 9pm. Please plan to come join us for at least one hour as we intercede on behalf of the people of our church family and the community, and as we lift up our requests regarding Vacation Bible School (July 29 — Aug. 2) and other things! We will be meeting in Classroom #1.

Most of you may have seen the message that there is no Men’s Breakfast this Saturday, but the regular time of prayer (7am) and Bible Study (7:45) is still happening!

You may be wondering what is next now that we are finishing Isaiah… Justin and I will work together on a series on “4 Chair Discipling: Growing a Movement of Disciple-Makers.” Then in September I will begin a series on “PETER: Learning to Live Like Jesus.” May God be exalted as we are equipped by His Word!

For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind. (Isaiah 65:17 ESV)

Only two messages left in our study through the book of Isaiah! Sunday I will preach on Isaiah 65, “My Servants Will Dwell There.” The theme is: God puts Himself gloriously on display in redeeming Gentiles, judging the wicked, and creating a new heaven and new earth. Please prayerfully read Isaiah 65, and join us Sunday at 10:30am!

Some of you might not be aware that Ethan Whitted is studying for a number of months in Cape Town, South Africa! He has started a blog to keep people updated on how and what he’s doing there. If you’d like to read it and sign up to receive it in your email, click here: ETHAN.

Mark your calendars for July 22–25, for our 4 Days of Prayer. We will gather together for 45 minute sessions (with a 15 min. break in between), from 5 to 9am & 5 to 9pm. Please plan to come join us for at least one hour as we intercede on behalf of the people of our church family and the community, and as we lift up our requests regarding Vacation Bible School (July 29 — Aug. 2) and other things!

I looked, but there was no one to help; I was appalled, but there was no one to uphold; so my own arm brought me salvation, and my wrath upheld me.(Isaiah 63:5 ESV)

On Sunday we will be looking at two chapters — Isaiah 63-64, in a message entitled, “All Have Sinned.” Isaiah will teach us that God’s passionate response to sin should call forth persistent and fervent prayer from God’s people. I encourage you to read those chapters before we gather for worship at 10:30am Sunday, and come with ears and hearts open to hear what the Lord has to say to us!

We will also be celebrating the Lord’s Table together, so let’s again come with hearts prepared for that time of worship and remembrance. The Care Fund box will be available for donations after the service as well.

Mark your calendars for July 22–25, for our 4 Days of Prayer. We will gather together for 45 minute sessions (with a 15 min. break in between), from 5 to 9am & 5 to 9pm. For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not be quiet, until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, and her salvation as a burning torch. (Isaiah 62:1 ESV)

This Sunday we will be back in our study of Isaiah (only 4 messages left!). We will look at Isaiah 62 this week, and I’ve entitled the message “The Redeemed of the LORD.” Christ’s passionate zeal for the glory of Zion, His bride, is relentless, calling forth a corresponding zeal from His people until her radiant beauty is finally and perfectly consummated. I hope you’ll join us at 10:30am this Sunday!

On a personal note, I want to thank so many of you who have been so generous and kind to Caleb upon his high school graduation, and to Molly upon her forthcoming marriage! You are truly a great church family, and our family is thankful and blessed. This Sunday will be Molly’s last Sunday with us, as she will be heading down to Mexico this coming Tuesday to help with the summer school program where she will be living, and preparing for the wedding in August! So for those who would like to say goodbye and wish her well, this Sunday will be your last opportunity to do that in person.

Love From Your Pastor,

Michael
