Love From Your Pastor

Hi FBC Friends!

But the word of God increased and multiplied. (Acts 12:24)
There is no power like the power of the Word of God!  I hope you are making the Bible central to your life each day.  Please pray that the word of God will increase and multiply through the ministry here at FBC Brownsville!
Reminder: Remember that this Sunday we are making a change in our times for the summer.  Worship service will begin at 9:00 a.m., and Sunday School will begin at 10:45 a.m.  Looking forward to seeing you this Sunday!
Also, Micah and Heather Powers with Teach Beyond in Spain (one of the missionaries we began supporting this year), will be here with us.  Micah will be speaking for us.  They will be with us for Sunday School, and then there is a Potluck beginning around Noon, and the Powers will be with us for that too.  Please bring something yummy (like I had to remind you of that!) and be sure to join us.
Micah will be preaching on a number of different passages in 1 Peter.  He suggested two possible titles, “Aliens on a Mission,” or “Set Apart for a Purpose”, so take your pick!  (I personally like the first option!)  A passage that will be a good representative of what Micah wants to share is 1 Peter 2:9-17, so please read that ahead of time to prepare your heart for the message.
Please remember to be praying for Dave Ezell as he goes with Haiti Foundation of Hope to serve the people of Terre Blanche!  They are flying out tonight, and will be traveling all night, arriving in Haiti tomorrow morning.  There is a detailed prayer letter available on the missions table in the foyer if you want to pick that up.
Starting June 29, I will be preaching a series on the book of Lamentations!  The series will be entitled, “Rivers of Tears.”  Sounds exciting and uplifting doesn’t it?!  No, seriously, the more I study and pray and think about the message of Lamentations, the more intrigued I am about how important it is for us today.  For some reason, I don’t feel like I chose to preach on Lamentations because I thought it would be a good book to study.  Instead, I feel that God chose it.  Why?  I’m not entirely sure!  So let’s find out together starting June 29.
As I did with the Galatians series, I’m hoping to have some suggested verses to memorize with each message (there will be five messages, one for each chapter).  So for June 29, the first memory verse is Lamentations 1:18a – The LORD is in the right, for I have rebelled against His word.  That’s not a hard one, so let’s memorize that together.
Please keep praying – for Dave and the Haiti team, for me and the elders, for our church and the decisions we will be making in the near future, for the marriages and families in our church, etc. etc.
Oh, that the Word of God would increase and multiply in and through us!

Michael
