Love From Your Pastor

Hi Friends of FBC!

In today’s Bible reading, we were in Daniel 4.  What an amazing story!  It’s hard to fathom such a ruthless, proud, pagan king like Nebuchadnezzar coming to the place where he would praise and honor the Name of the Most High God!  But that’s exactly what happens following the terrible humiliation King Neb endured as a result of his extreme pride about his own greatness.  This powerful king was driven from his palace, all the way to the point where he was living outside, eating the grass like an ox!  Even unbelieving world leaders are held accountable by our Mighty God, who is the Supreme Ruler of all the earth!  Notice how this earthly king sums up his thoughts:
Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble. (Dan 4:37 ESV)

What an important lesson for us all, and not just for kings!
We are 13 days away from Trunk-or-Treat!  Once again we are extremely blessed with a terrific response on the part of all of you.  We have asked for more donations this year so we can offer free hot dogs, chips, and drinks to our guests on October 31 (6-7:30pm), and most of the items have been signed up for.  We still have room for some more people to put your cars into the event.  Please let myself or Elizabeth know if you are interested, and we can answer questions you might have.  I am excited about the potential impact of this outreach.  Please be in prayer for all of the details, but most of all for all of the families who will attend.  And please be thinking of people you can invite to a safe, fun, and candy-filled time in the FBC parking lot!  Speaking of candy… I think the ladies have a 2 — 1 lead in terms of boxes filled.  At this point, I’m honestly not too concerned who wins, but I am concerned that we have plenty of candy to offer!  I know many of you have brought in a number of bags already – thank you!  If you haven’t brought any candy yet, would you please consider bringing some this Sunday?  And if you already have, but think you could handle bringing more, that would be great!  If we have as many children as we are expecting, it’s going to take LOTS of candy!
This Sunday I will be speaking on Hosea 6:11 — 7:16.  The title is, “No Place to Hide.”  We will look at how Israel could not hide from God, and how they needed to be honest with Him and with themselves about the reality of their spiritual condition.  Of course this relates to us, as we need to make an honest assessment of our devotion to the Lord.  There are 4 key similes used to describe God’s people.  As you read the passage, see if you can identify all 4!
Thank you all for being such encouragements to my family and me.  We love being a part of this ministry in Brownsville!
Love from your Pastor,
Michael
