Love From Your Pastor

He (Christ) is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. (Hebrews 1:3 ESV)
Hebrews 1:3 is an incredibly powerful verse, one from our reading today in the One Year Bible.  There is so much to say about this verse, that I don’t even want to get started, because I could be here typing all day!  But just look at it.  Read it.  Now read it again.  Wow.  This is why we worship Jesus Christ, the Son of God.  God incarnate.  The Word who was God and became flesh.  Notice what it says about Christ.  He is “the radiance of the glory of God.”  Jesus is the Light of the world!  And incredibly, He calls us the “light of the world” as well!
Tomorrow night, from 6-8:30pm, at Trunk or Treat, we have the opportunity to be a reflection of Him to our community!  To shine “the radiance of the glory of God” on a dark night.  Please pray for a powerful impact on people from our community through this event.  Please tell your friends who have children about it.  If you can, bring some more candy down to FBC!  And you’re going to want to come and find out what costumes Elizabeth has come up with for her and for me!
Make sure you set your clocks back!  Yes, we gain an hour of sleep Saturday night!  Don’t forget to set your clock back on Saturday evening.  My recommendation, don’t wait until 2 a.m. to do it!  Speaking of Saturday night, I read some great suggestions for how we can prepare for Sunday worship.  You can read them at the link below:

This Sunday I will be speaking on Revelation 2:8-11, “The Message to Smyrna”.  Please read and pray through that passage in preparation for Sunday (see article above).  This is a powerful message from Jesus Christ to a church that suffered persecution.  Interestingly, Voice of the Martyrs has declared this Sunday the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church!  So that will be the focus of the message and our prayer time this Sunday.  We will also be remembering our Lord’s suffering through the ordinance of the Lord’s Supper.  Please examine your heart, confess any known sin, and come prepared.
Below is another link, this one for more information about Voice of the Martyrs and the persecuted church:
Also, please be in prayer for our November 16 FBC Anniversary.  We are turning 161!  In celebration, we will be receiving a special offering for Missions on that day!  Please pray and ask the Lord what He would have you give.  Please consider a generous, cheerful, and sacrificial gift.  You can choose one of the three projects listed in last week’s bulletin, or just give an unspecified gift for the Global Outreach Commission to decide where it goes.
May God’s grace and peace be with you.
Looking forward to shining the Light of Christ in Brownsville together!
Love From Your Pastor,
Michael
