Then they seized Him and led Him away, bringing Him into the high priest’s house, and Peter was following at a distance. (Luke 22:54 ESV)

On Sunday we will continue our journey through the life of Simon Peter by examining two passages: Luke 22:54-62 & 24:1-12.  The purpose of the message, “Learning to Persevere,” is to realize the need for perseverance in the life of a Christian through the power of our resurrected Savior. We will hopefully see how these two events, not normally linked together, give us a great picture of how terrible failure can eventually turn into incredible hope for the future. Please read those two Scripture passages and join us Sunday at 10:30am!

Only 7 days to Trunk-or-Treat! The 9th annual trunk-or-treat will take place in the church parking lot (and fellowship hall for dinner) from 6:00 — 7:30pm on Thursday, October 31. Elizabeth is still looking for 10 more vehicles – can you help? Please be in prayer for this event – that we will be good neighbors and will shine as the light of the world. Pray for families, that they will read the gospel tracts and the literature about FBC and want to come back to know more! Please keep the candy coming – we are over 300 lbs., and the Beavers have a commanding lead! But there is still a week left Duck fans! We’d like to see another 100 lbs. And we are also in need of seven more people to donate 4 dozen cookies each (sign up sheet in the foyer). Thank you for teaming up to make this a special event. There will be a brief meeting after church this Sunday for Elizabeth to give some instructions and answer questions.

This Saturday evening, beginning at 5:30pm, is the Teen Challenge Western Shindig, which is their annual fundraiser. It is being catered this year by Bo Mack’s BBQ. We have a few people from the church who have purchased tables, and I’ve heard there is room for around 6 more people to attend. If you’re interested in a great meal (which is paid for) and a great time, please contact me (or Karen Joiner) ASAP!

By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another (John 13:35 ESV)

This Sunday we will be studying John 13:31–14:4, and the message is called, “Learning to Love”. We are following some key events in the life of Simon Peter and learning from his close interactions with Jesus about what it means to live like our Lord. Together from this text we will see love as the central character of Jesus and the central command of His ministry.

Only 14 days to Trunk-or-Treat! Elizabeth is still looking for 10 more vehicles – so come up with a decorating theme (or ask her for ideas) and sign up to join the fun! It is our desire to shine the light of Christ’s love for our community on this dark night. Please be in prayer for this event – that we will be good neighbors and will shine as the light of the world. Pray for families, that they will read the gospel tracts and the literature about FBC and want to come back to know more! Please keep the candy coming – I believe we are at around 205 pounds (which is about half of what we need)! And we are also in need of ten people to donate 4 dozen cookies each (sign up sheet in the foyer). The 9th annual trunk-or-treat will take place in the church parking lot (and fellowship hall for dinner) from 6:00 — 7:30pm.

Men – it’s that time again – time for our monthly Men’s Breakfast! This Saturday at 8am in the Fellowship Hall! Come join us for some great food, good discussion, and an important lesson from God’s Word about the basics of the Christian life! If you can help cook, please show up at 7am. See you Saturday guys!

Sunday morning David and Hilary Ker, of Little Zebra Books, will be with us for Sunday School (9am) and the worship service (10:30). And Peter answered Him, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” (Matthew 14:28 ESV)

This Sunday we will continue our sermon series PETER: Learning to Live Like Jesus.  This time we’ll see how Peter was “Learning to Trust.”  Our Scripture is Matthew 14:22-33. Please read that passage ahead of time and think about this question, Are you willing to get out of the boat? Be sure to join us Sunday at 10:30am!

Last Sunday we began a new adult Sunday School class using David Platt’s video series, “Counter Culture”. Be sure to come at 9am Sunday and be a part of the class!

And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. (Mark 1:35 ESV) In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God. (Luke 6:12 ESV)

This Sunday we will continue our sermon series PETER: Learning to Live Like Jesus.  We will take a look at two passages: Mark 1:29-39 & Luke 6:12-23.  Please read those ahead of time, prayerfully of course!  In the sermon, I will be zeroing in especially on Mark 1:35 & Luke 6:12.  Peter had a front row seat to see how prayer was the stabilizing force behind Jesus’ ministry.  I hope our time together in the Word this Sunday will impact greatly all of our prayer lives!  Be sure to join us Sunday at 10:30am!

Also Sunday, the new adult Sunday School class will begin on “Counter Culture”. We will watch a video lesson from David Platt and discuss the topic. This is sure to be an important and timely group of lessons for us as Christians in an often anti-Christian world. Be sure to come at 9am Sunday and be a part of the class! If you have children, we have excellent classes for all ages, so start a new holy habit this week!

Families, remember that tonight is AWANA registration night from 6:00 to 7:30pm! Hot dogs will be provided, so come get the kids registered for this year’s club and you’ll all be fed too!  Regular AWANA clubs begin next Thursday, 7:00 to 8:30pm.

“The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you. My love be with you all in Christ Jesus. Amen.” (1 Cor. 16:23-24)

And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at Your word I will let down the nets.” (Luke 5:5 ESV)

We are beginning a new sermon series this week — PETER: Learning to Live Like Jesus! We are going to look at a number of events from Peter’s life that will help us learn what it means to live as a follower of Jesus Christ. This Sunday we will be in Luke 5:1-11, talking about “Learning to Obey.” This is a marvelous account of a very powerful event early in Peter’s relationship with Jesus. Please read the passage and come prepared to learn how to obey Sunday!

Thank you for your prayers for my family and I as we traveled to Mexico and back for Molly’s wedding! We greatly appreciate it. It was a blessed time with many family, friends, and new friends and new family. I am also thankful for Pastor Justin doing a splendid job preaching and “holding down the fort” while I was away!

I’m looking forward to a great weekend at Camp Tadmor for Men’s Roundup! Please pray that all the men (and some young men) going will be powerfully impacted and challenged in our spiritual lives! I’ll be at Tadmor for most of the event but will be at FBC Sunday to worship, fellowship, and grow in the Word with you!

The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” (John 1:43 ESV)

This Sunday we’ll be looking at Chair 2 and Jesus’ challenge to “Follow Me.” Our text will be John 1:43-51. Please take some time to read that before we gather together. The disciple-making journey continues with those who are now believers.  Jesus invites them to follow Him, growing to be more like Him.

A great “Chair 2” opportunity for men is taking place on Saturdays at 7:45am (in classroom 3) — we are continuing the video series on the basics of the Christian life by Sinclair Ferguson. Come check it out, guys!

He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. (John 1:39 ESV)

This Sunday we will begin a new four-part sermon series: “4 Chair Discipling: Growing a Movement of Disciple-Makers”. The first message will be on Chair 1 – “Come and See”. We will take a close look at an encounter between Jesus and some early disciples in John 1:35-42. The disciple-making journey begins with those who are spiritually lost. Jesus came “to seek and save the lost.” Please prayerfully read that passage and join us Sunday at 10:30!

After the worship service Sunday, we will head down to the Pioneer Park for our annual all-church picnic! Please plan to come enjoy a time of fellowship, good food, enjoying the beauty of the park, playing games, and… Lord willing, horse rides for the kids (and young at hearts)! Please bring a main dish and a side, salad, or dessert to share. You will need to bring drinks, plates, etc. for you and your family. Also bring along any lawn games, sports equipment, horse shoes, etc. And, did I mention, Ivan plans to bring a few horses for riding?

This evening is the last opportunity of this week to join in the 4 Days of Prayer. We will be praying together from 5-9pm tonight. Thank you to everyone who has joined in our prayer times so far!
